Space and Accessibility

The pump (other than submersible type), tank and water treatment devices should be located in the same general area. A submersible pump is installed in the well and will usually be remote from the tank and other devices.

A floor area not less than 4 ft. by 6 ft. should be provided for typical pump and/or tank with clearance to a height of 6 ft. This is a minimum space requirement and assumes the use of a vertical tank.

The well should be located so it will be reasonably accessible for cleaning, treatment, repair, test, inspection and such other attention as may be necessary. When a well is located adjacent to a building, it should be located so the centerline of the well extended vertically will clear any projection from the building by not less than two feet. Refer to Section I.

All of the system components should be located so they are readily accessible for servicing. Areas indicated above include working space of approximately 2 ft. in width on two sides of the system area. Where two or more devices are required, such as a water system and a water softener, the access areas for servicing the devices may be common to both.
